The Sheep section of the Show is very well supported with over 200 pens of sheep competing in sections for High Health Accredited stock, Breeding Sheep, Butcher’s Lambs and Wiltshire Horn Sheep.​

In recent years the Young Shepherd section has gone from strength to strength and at the last Show around 30 youngsters took part.

THE CLARE CHAPMAN PERPETUAL CHALLENGE CUP (35) will be awarded for the Best Exhibit of Continental Sheep.

THE DENIS BRODIE CUP (47) will be awarded to the Best Exhibit of Native Sheep.

THE SOCIETY’S SUPREME CHAMPION SHEEP CHALLENGE CUP (38) will be awarded to the Exhibitor of the Best Pen of Sheep in Classes 108-136 (excluding class 116).


YOUNG SHEPHERD 2025

Open to MV Accredited and Non-Accredited Exhibitors

Class 116

Young Shepherd

One animal, any age, sex or breed (not to be shown in any other class) to be prepared and shown by a Young Handler aged from 4 to 15 years on date of Show. Sheep and Handler to be judged.

Age and name of handler MUST be stated on entry form. MV accredited entries must be clearly identified and a copy of a completed and ‘in-date’ P.S.G.H.S. form must be handed in prior to unloading

Class may be split by age of handler if sufficient entries are received.

A Shepherd’s Crook will be awarded to the Champion Young Shepherd.

THE GEORGE MAYO MEMORIAL CUP (50) kindly presented by the family of the late George Mayo will be awarded to the Best Exhibitor in Class 116.

The Wiltshire Horn National Show for pedigree sheep is held under the bylaws of the Wiltshire Horn Sheep Society and exhibitors must be members of the WHSS

THE LYN DAVIES MEMORIAL BOWL (53) presented by the Wiltshire Horn Sheep Society will be awarded to the best female from classes 131 to 133.

Best Shearling Ram, with two broad teeth.

Best Aged Ram, showing more than two broad teeth.

THE GORSE PERPETUAL CHALLENGE TANKARD (40) will be awarded to the Wiltshire Horn Champion.

THE ELLIOTT PERPETUAL CHALLENGE CUP (42) will be awarded to the best Wiltshire Horn of opposite sex to the Champion.

THE BOXES PERPETUAL TROPHY (41) will be awarded to the Best Group of Three Wiltshire Horn comprising of two females and one male.

THE BROCKHALL CUP will be awarded to the Champion of the Wiltshire Horn National Show, together with £100 prize money from the Wiltshire Horn Sheep Society.

The Best Opposite Sex in the National Show will receive a prize of £50 donated by Nick and Teresa Hodgkinson, Souldrop Flock
